  Edo Joint Security Taskforce raid Upper Sakponba, comb riverine communities, arrest suspected kidnappers The Edo State Joint Security Taskforce at the weekend raided the Upper Sakponba area of Benin City and combed riverine communities, leading to the arrest of suspected kidnappers terrorising the state. The suspected kidnappers, comprising  seven males, were arrested around Ogbemudia oil palm plantation on Saturday, barely 24 hours after the taskforce kicked into action. Prior to the operation, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Omozoje, had intimated Governor Godwin Obaseki on their activity in the state, promising to bring a halt to the recent rise in criminality and lend support to efforts at capturing fleeing escapees from the two federal correctional facilities in Benin City, the state capital. Edo jailbreak: Escapees threatening policemen with text messages, says CP ADEYINKA ADEDIPE Escapees from the two correctional centres in Benin City, Edo State, have been reportedly sending threat messages to policemen who investigated and prosecuted their cases. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Johnson Kokumo , stated this on Saturday, adding that one of the escapees killed a prosecution witness from his village. The police boss stated that a doctor attached to the Central Hospital was hit by a stray bullet amid continued cult-related killings and shootings in the state capital. Kokumo , who said his men were making efforts to restore normalcy to the state, noted that three officers shot on Friday by hoodlums were recuperating. He said, “You can imagine what it means when three police stations along Sokponba Road are destroyed and burnt, and patrol vehicles destroyed in several other parts of the state capital. Obaseki, who presented the budget to the Assembly sitting at the old Legislative Chambers in Government House, Benin City, said the budget comprises N94.8 billion for recurrent and N58.6 billion for capital expenditure. The governor said the document christened ‘Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) Budget,’ is exclusively pinned on robustly responding to the dislocations caused by the coronavirus pandemic, whilst building a workforce of the future. Comrade Philip Shaibu on Tuesday joined the Super Eagles to train ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone. The qualifying game against Sierra Leone will be played on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, which was newly remodeled by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration. Ahmed Musa , Kelechi Iheanacho, Maduka Okoye, Oghenekaro Etebo and Paul Onuachu are among the Super Eagles players at the training as supporters watched in anticipation of the interesting encounter.   Benin agog as Super Eagles arrives ahead of Friday AFCON qualifier _…as residents hail Obaseki’s sports reform_ Benin City, the Edo State capital, was on a standstill on Monday night as Super Eagles players arrived in the ancient city, ahead of their 2021 AFCON qualifier match against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone . The crew led by Super Eagles Chief Coach, Gernot Rohr , also inspected the newly reconstructed Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue for the match billed for Friday, November 13th in Benin City. The city also ecstatic over the return of sporting activities, as elated residents watched the players inspect the newly revamped stadium by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government.
