ENVIRONMENTALHEALTH - Oredo LG Flags-off Refuse Evacuation: As Osa, Oba Markets, Urhokpota Hall And Environs Picks Up

The Oredo Local Government has embarked on a LGA-wide evacuation of refuse from markets and other public facilities; the exercise serves as part of efforts by the Osunde-led administration to keep the local government area clean, curtail the spread of the novel COVID-19 and other environmental impact diseases in the locality

Flagging off evacuation at Osa Market, popularly known as Ekiosa on Thursday May 21, 2020, a representative of the Council told newsmen that the evacuation is part of policies and programmes developed and implemented by the Chairman of Oredo Local Government, Hon. Jenkins Osunde to reduce the spread of diseases and keep market places clean; he revealed that the exercise is continuous and has been in force since the inception of the Osunde-led administration in March 2018

He stated that major markets in Oredo Local Government Area are targets in the evacuation plan urging market women and residents to utilize designated refuse disposal bins and points in their various markets and areas properly

In another development, the evacuation team on Friday were at Oba Market at the Kings Square in continuation of the exercise as men of the health and environmental departments of the Council were seen removing wastes from the market

Recall that in the outbreak of the CORONAVIRUS pandemic, the State Government directed Local Councils to relocate traders of food items to public primary and secondary schools in their locality to create room for fumigation of the markets

Whereas Hon. Jenkins Osunde has long relocated the market women to schools, his refuse evacuation programme has remained in force

There has also been evacuation of refuse at the historical Urhokpota Hall and environs with a promise to visit other markets, areas in the coming days and weeks

Shaibu, Edo Deputy Governor resumes work in his new office

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, on Tuesday morning, officially resumed work in his new office at 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue very close to Edo state government house. This was after noticing that his former office in government house have been locked up by security men attached to government house.  Recall that on Monday, Philip Shaibu claimed that he had not received any official communication for him to relocate to the new office, he also said it was only the civil savants attached to his office that was relocated.  He was seen standing  by the entrance to his former office, which was under lock. He was also seen making a call to an unknown individual, pleading to help him call the governor to know why his former office was locked. Shaibu was also complaining to the unknown individual that he was yet to receive any letter asking him to relocate.
