Forgery: INEC REC Arrested in Edo State

We were helpless when all the ‘transactions’ were going on says Inec staff

On Thursday July 28, 2022, men of the Edo State Police Command, arrested the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mr. Johnson Alalibo for a case of alleged forgery.

Investigation reveal that, his arrest is sequel to a petition by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as a result of the alleged compromised role Alalibo played in the saga that is trailing the party’s delegates and primary elections in Edo State.

An INEC staff confided that, the activities of Alalibo doesn’t represent the official position of the electoral body. “We were helpless when all the ‘transactions’ were going on.”

“It got to a point, the REC prevented any staff from accepting documents from the PDP Chairman, and we were only ordered to accept those signed by Mr. Hilary Otsu, Secretary of the party”, the source said.

Alalibo accusers are demanding for documentary evidence to defend the results of both the delegate and primary elections, that he produced and defended as the outcome of the intra-party contest in Edo State.

Our source informed us that the National Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, “is terribly embarrassed by the action of Edo REC and approved his arrest, but was later prevailed on, to intervene and plead for his bail.”

As at the time of writing this report, the embattled REC has been granted bail by the police. It’s however not clear what will happen next.
