Hon. Osunde Condemns Political Violence Near Oba Palace.
A PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY HON. EVBAREKE JENKINS OSUNDE, EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL.
……the conduct was a bestial expression of political desperation
……those behind the mayhem have no sense of the mystical and majestic historicity of the Benin Palace
……the action was nationally disgraceful and locally abhorrent
…..Governor Obaseki displayed an exemplary act of leadership by calling for peaceful response
I wish to vehemently condemn the act of political hooliganism and psychopathic vandalism which occurred in the intimate vicinity of the revered and sacred Palace of the Oba of Benin yesterday. It was a conduct that has been adjudged unprecedented in the recent political history of Edo People. While there have been situations of intense electoral contests in Benin-City in the past , one cannot recall a circumstance, where youths of genuine Benin heritage, will abominably descend to the abyss of creating threatening physical rancor anywhere near the proximity of the Palace.
A reflective consideration of the facts of the matter clearly shows that the uproar was sponsored to embarrass the powerful delegation of visiting PDP Governors who were in Benin-City to flag-off the Governor’s re-election campaign. But I can say without an iota of doubt that the diabolical agenda against Governor Obaseki and his guests has failed miserably. It must be stated that immediately after the failed attack on the Governor and his national PDP visitors, Governor Obaseki’s convoy proceeded with dignity to Ogbe Stadium to hold a very successful and remarkable flag-off for the re-election bid.
Undoubtedly, the APC political opponents are afraid of the immense popularity of the Governor and, therefore, thought that the fake protests of a band of, drug and alcohol –induced gangsters, would be enough to do damage to the unblemished reputation of the Governor. The projected outcome for those who plotted this protest has been a fatal failure just as their original intent was hallucinatory.
I must note that our Local Government, with its Secretariat very near the Benin Palace, has immensely enjoyed the paternal and inspiring blessings and prayers from His Royal Majesty, Omo ‘N Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo , Oba Ewuare 11, Ogidigan , for years now. We therefore pray for the continuous good health and eventful reign of His Majesty for very many years to come.
Signed
Hon. Evbareke Jenkins Osunde.
(Executive Chairman Oredo Local Government Council)
